Building a Computer

Building my full-scale PC from scratch was a hands-on project that deepened my understanding of hardware compatibility, system optimization, and post-build configuration. I started by selecting components that could handle both resource-intensive cybersecurity labs and GPU-heavy workloads like virtualization, capture-the-flag simulations, and content creation. The heart of the build is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, chosen for its exceptional performance in multi-threaded environments. Paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super, the system easily handles GPU-accelerated tasks and smooth graphics rendering — even under heavy load.

I built the system around the ASUS TUF GAMING B650-E motherboard, which provided the durability, expansion options, and BIOS control I needed. For memory, I installed 32GB of G.Skill DDR5 RAM, which balances speed and multitasking headroom, and opted for a 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD to ensure fast boot times and rapid access to my virtual machines and lab environments. The entire build is powered by an MSI MAG A850GL power supply, providing ample, stable power with 80 Plus Gold efficiency — crucial for long lab sessions and future-proofing.

Once the hardware was assembled and cable management was (mostly) conquered, I booted into the BIOS to configure system settings, flashed the firmware, and installed Windows. From there, I manually installed chipset and GPU drivers to ensure full compatibility and performance, along with essential tools like PowerShell, WSL2, and virtualization platforms. The experience not only gave me a deeper appreciation for system architecture but also equipped me with the practical knowledge to troubleshoot and optimize machines from the ground up — a skillset I now apply regularly in my cybersecurity labs and home network projects.

Now, I’m sure you are asking “why did you pick those screens?” or “what even are they?” Well, the top is Stitch (my favorite movie growing up), the middle is Sora and Roxas from Kingdom Hearts 2 (only the best video game franchise… obviously), and the bottom is a basset hound (because they are the best dogs, definitely not the cleanest). The CPU Cooler is of weaving through traffic (because… motorcycles).
